Detention Center Literacy

We offer literacy instruction to incarcerated individuals in the Greensboro Detention Center. Our tutors work with small groups on reading, writing, math, and life skills. Classes are held Tuesday and Thursdays from 2:30-4:00 pm. Sessions last 8 weeks.  The adults in this program range from beginning literacy to those preparing to take the GED® or other high school equivalency exam.

Our Detention Center tutors use our Literacy Toolkit® along with supplemental materials found in our Resource Library. Volunteers must undergo a background check and detention center orientation before working in the detention center.
